The Epistle of Barnabas explains this number by the correspondence with Greek letters and sees there "the men saved by Jesus in cross". And that due to the fact that the number 318 is figured by the Greek letter T, "tau", which has the aspect of a cross, and by the group IH, Iota-Eta, composed of the first two letters of the name of Jesus, IHSOYS: T + IH = 300 + 10 + 8 = 318.

These two texts seem contradictory. Moreover, he will be no longer quoted thereafter in the life of Abraham. But the Cabalists noticed that the numeral value of the name of "Eliezer" is 318, being exactly the number of the "warriors born in his own household". Would Eliezer be a "numbered confirmation" of the 318 warriors used by Abraham? Or would he be a really men, the only warrior used by Abraham to conquer the enemy king? The question remains. The reader will note that the verse 2 chapter 15 in the Bible of Jerusalem is truncated so that the name of Eliezer does not appear because the continuation of the text would be corrupted. But we find it in other biblical versions.
